The UK opens first gambling addiction treatment centre outside London
The UK is opening the first gambling addiction treatment centre outside London.
Hardly a week goes by without some news out from the UKGC. A few days ago, LadyLucks told us about the licensing updates to enhance player protection by the UK Gambling Commission. But why the focus on player protection? Well, players can appreciate the importance of this regulating body in protecting vulnerable individuals and society in general. Unfortunately, we can see the effects of gambling addicts who slip through the cracks. For these people, gambling addiction service centres are the place that they often turn to for help.
The treatment centre will deal with extreme cases of addiction in Leeds with plans for treatments centres in Sunderland and Manchester early next year.
Gambling addiction service
It comes as a mixed blessing that the UK has opened its first gambling addiction treatment centre outside of London. The reality is that problem gambling continues to be a sickness afflicting a small number of players. This latest opening in the city of Leeds by the NHS will provide needed access to care. Funding will come from GambleAware and NHS England for about £1 million a year. Their mission will be to support and treat players with extreme addiction as well as other mental health problems. There is a further plan to open facilities in Sunderland and Manchester in early 2020.
Players can visit LadyLucks’ responsible gambling page for more information on addiction.
